13-Jan-19 : ROOTS: Growing Deeper in Christ’s Love Together

Today, we continue to begin the year with our 2019 message series theme: “Growing ROOTS & FRUITS Together” (based on Jer. 17:8-9). We grow “roots” when we go deeper in Christ’s love together. We grow “fruits” when we go wider with Christ’s love together. Today, we introduce the theme on ROOTS. Based on Eph. 3:14-21, how can we get deeper in Christ’s love?

I. PRAY TO EXPERIENCE CHRIST ________________(3:14-17)

Paul prayed that God may “strengthen” (3:16) the Ephesians (i.e., that they may be strong to overcome resistance) with “power” (i.e., dynamic & living), so that Christ may “dwell” (i.e., be at home) in their lives. When Christ is deeply rooted in their lives, they would be “rooted” (like a plant, using biological language) & “grounded” (like a building, using architectural language) in God’s love. Let’s get grounded in God’s love for us.

The 1st purpose of Paul’s prayer is so that the Ephesians may have the power “to grasp how wide & long & high & deep is the love of Christ” (3:18). These measurements of width, length, height, & depth show that we are engulfed by God’s intense love. The idea of grasping His love is not so much about how thoroughly we can comprehend His love but is more about being enamored by the immensity of His love. Let’s enjoy the intensity of God’s love for us.

III. MATURE IN CHRIST’S LOVE _______________ (3:19-21)

The 2nd purpose of Paul’s prayer is so that the Ephesians may “know this love that surpasses knowledge” (3:19a). The “knowing” is not just intellectual but experiential understanding (i.e., the more we know His love, the more amazed we are at Christ’s love for us). This amazing love enriches us to the point that we “may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (3:19b) – i.e., not that we will be God, but that we will be fulfilled according to what God intends (continually maturing to the “whole measure of the fullness of Christ” [4:13b]). Let’s experience the reality of God’s enriching love for us daily.

27-JAN-19 : Praying the Way Jesus Taught

Today, we continue our message series on “Praying the Jesus Way,” which has 3 parts (Praying the Way Jesus Modelled, Praying the Way Jesus Taught, Praying the Way Jesus Prayed). This is our 1st way to grow deeper ROOTS. Based on Luke 11:1-13, how did Jesus teach His disciples to pray?

I. PRAY TO OUR GIVING & ____________ FATHER (11:1-4)
In Jesus’ teaching on how to pray, He stresses the value of giving praise (11:2) & petitions (11:3-4) to our Father. We can pray for provision because God gives, for pardon because He forgives, & for protection because God guides. Let’s take the time to pray.

II. PERSIST IN PRAYER TO OUR ____________ FATHER (11:5-10)
The parables in 11:5-8 presents persistence in prayer. But unlike the hesitant friend, God is willing to graciously help when we ask, seek, & knock (11:9-10). The Father’s grace endows, enables, & empowers us. In response to His grace, let’s be gracious to others.

Earthly fathers, though evil, know how to give good gifts to their children (11:11-12). But our heavenly Father, who is holy, gives us the greatest of gifts (i.e., the Holy Spirit). Let’s show generous acts as part of our lifestyle

03-Feb-19 : Praying the Way Jesus Prayed

(John 17:6-26)

Today, we conclude our message series on “Praying the Jesus Way,” which has 3 parts (Praying the Way Jesus Modelled, Praying the Way Jesus Taught, Praying the Way Jesus Prayed). The Jesus’ “High Priestly” prayer (or the “Lord’s Prayer”) shows what we must pray for others. According to John 17:6-26, what must we pray for others?

I. PRAY FOR ________________ FOR GOD’S PEOPLE  (17:6-16)
Jesus prayed for the disciples’ protection through the Father’s power (v. 11). God can protect us from internal & external dangers, despite the world’s hatred (v. 14) & Satan’s hostility (v. 15). Let’s call on the God of protection for others.

II. PRAY FOR ___________ IN GOD’S PEOPLE (17:17-19)
To “sanctify” means to “set apart for a special use.” God sets us apart from the world by His Word (vv. 17, 19) for His use in the world. May we seek to have cleansed lives for ourselves & others in prayer.

III. PRAY FOR _______________AMONG GOD’S PEOPLE (17:20-23)
Real fellowship occurs with unity (i.e., oneness with God’s purpose, power, & plan), not uniformity (i.e., absolute superficial similarity), nor unanimity (i.e., full agreement in opinion), nor union (i.e., absolute affiliation or coalition). Let’s pray that we be one in faith, love, & purpose, so the world may see God’s work.

IV. PRAY FOR GOD’S ____________ PEOPLE  (17:24-26)

God’s presence in the present & future shows His glory & love. Let’s enjoy the presence of God & pray that others may experience His presence & may show His glory to them through His love.
